Sayon (pronounced: Sha-yon) is a traveler’s soul with a camera in his backpack. He is currently based in Berlin. Photography and blogging has been a passion he nurtures since he was 17. As he traveled more, he dived into art, history, culture, and cuisine while having an eye for stories and photography.
He spent his early childhood in India in Rourkela & Midnapore. He spent most of his teenage in Kolkata and did his undergrad in Computer Science Durgapur. He moved continents at 22 and started studying Intelligent Systems in Kaiserslautern in Germany. He lived in Heidelberg and Düsseldorf before moving to Berlin. He natively speaks Bengali, Hindi, and English, and half-way there with German.
Professionally, he obsesses in bringing value to the machine learning ecosystem in EMEA by pushing data science into business transformation with Amazon Web Services. Prior to moving to Berlin, he was building and breaking stuff at trivago – developing user-centric industry experience in engineering large-scale data science solutions. He was also running the Düsseldorf Data Science Meetups. Before trivago, he was diving academically into deep-learning with European Space Agency satellite imageries at SAP and DFKI (German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence).
He cherishes spending time with friends and family. He loves to try out new food, cook creative recipes, explore art and culture, meet new people, try out new sports, travel to new places, and weave stories! Both at work and personally, he is a keen learner who likes to demystify anything complex. He is passionate about learning things he hasn’t tried before, live unique experiences, spark conversations and ask Why(s).
He visited ~25 countries in his mid-20s while blogging actively – till Covid hit the world stand-still. With passing years, he’s been less online beyond work and taking up hobbies offline – thus the blog has been more archival rather than regular.
